Roman Zyla, Senior Corporate Governance Officer, IFC Corporate Governance Group. Roman is currently the Regional Corporate Governance Lead (Africa) based in Johannesburg, where he covers the Sub-Saharan Africa region. His role includes assessing corporate governance practices in IFC investment clients. In addition, Roman coordinates IFC Corporate Governance Advisory Services solutions for both IFC, and non-IFC, clients. Roman’s experience in corporate governance includes work with financial institutions, funds, listed companies, state-owned enterprises, and family-owned companies including several in Eastern Europe, Turkey, Haiti and across Africa. Roman has more than 15 years of experience in risk research, small enterprise and corporate development, and has served as a founding board member of a family-run company. A specialist in emerging market business development, Roman holds a Ph.D from University College, University of London on the subject of SME development. With experience across Sub-Saharan Africa, he has also worked throughout Eastern and Central Europe, Central Asia as well as in East Asia, MENA, and Latin America.
